Hobart's year in festivals — when to visit
Dark midwinter feasts, summer race week, autumn truffle season — the honest guide to what each season does to the city and the estate.
Summer: the city outdoors
December to February is festival Hobart — Taste of Summer on the waterfront, the yacht race finish, MONA's season in full swing. The estate's pier becomes the city's best seat.
Book early: the last week of December is Tasmania's busiest, and our NYE package exists because the fireworks launch from the barges in front of us.
Winter: the city indoors
June's Dark Mofo turns Hobart gothic and glorious — winter feasts, night fires and installations in buildings that normally stay closed. The spa circuit and the vault do their best work this season.
Winter rates soften, fireplaces matter, and the whisky tastings hit different when it's four degrees outside. Locals consider it the real season.
Hobart doesn't have an off-season. It has seasons for different people.
The concierge desk
The shoulders
Autumn is truffle and vintage season — the cellar's busiest months and our truffle weekend's whole reason to exist. Spring is gardens, whales off the coast and the estate at its greenest.
Both shoulders trade peak crowds for peak character — the concierge's honest answer to 'when should I come' is May or October.
